David Pugh Elected 2025 Chair of ABC National Board of Directors

Birmingham, AL – Yesterday, the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) announced that David Pugh, a partner at Bradley law firm in Birmingham, Alabama, has been elected as the 2025 chair of the ABC National Board of Directors. The announcement came during the organization’s annual Leadership Institute in Scottsdale, Arizona.

“Nothing could be more thrilling than leading ABC in its 75th year, and as ABC’s first-ever associate member national chair, I am looking forward to the opportunity,” said Pugh. “Throughout those 75 years, ABC has consistently helped its members develop their people, win work, and deliver that work safely, ethically, and profitably. Whether exercising its leadership in government affairs, expanding and improving workforce development, or relentlessly pursuing not only safety at the worksite but also the total human health and wellness of all workers, ABC has proven that the merit shop movement is for the betterment of the individual, the construction industry, and the nation.”

Pugh, a University of Alabama graduate with a Civil Engineering degree, later earned his Juris Doctorate from Vanderbilt University Law School. His extensive career has spanned advising owners, contractors, engineers, and insurers on all phases of construction projects and representing clients in high-stakes litigation, including an appeal before the United States Supreme Court.

Jay Reed, President of ABC Alabama, highlighted Pugh’s accomplishments, stating, “Our chapter is extremely excited to have one of our own leading the National Association. David Pugh brings a toolbox fully loaded with the experience needed to elevate our strategic plan from day one. Under David’s guidance, our chapter has grown in membership, safety, governmental affairs, and workforce development. I have no doubt that his leadership will drive similar success for the National Association over the next year.”

Tim Harrison, President of Harrison Construction and incoming State Board Chairman, echoed the sentiment: “David Pugh brings a unique skill set to the role of National Chairman. As an engineer, contractor, and construction attorney, David’s diverse background allows him to truly understand and represent every segment of our membership. From arguing a case before the Supreme Court to speaking at Senate hearings, tackling retainage and prompt pay, and overseeing our Chapter’s Strategic Plan, David is ready for the job on day one.”

ABC Alabama represents a vital sector of the state’s economy, accounting for 200,000 jobs and 5% of Alabama’s economic output. As the first associate member to lead ABC nationally, Pugh’s tenure promises to be historic as he oversees initiatives in safety, workforce development, and legislative advocacy for the construction industry nationwide.
