Domestic Disturbance Leads to Shooting in Calhoun County

Calhoun County, AL – Per Calhoun County Sheriff Matthew Wade on April 4, 2023 at approximately 8:30 p.m., the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a domestic disturbance between a father and adult son on Kindle Way in Ohatchee.  There were reports of a gunshot victim.  Ohatchee P.D. arrived on scene first assisting the Sheriff’s Office with the response.  The officer discovered a male laying in the front yard with a gunshot wound to the chest and another male laying on the residence’s porch injured with a physical injury to his hip.

The officer recovered a firearm from the man on the porch and rendered aid to the gunshot victim.  Deputies and ambulances arrived on scene and began aid and the investigation.

The injured male on the porch was Morris Morrison a 67-year-old white male homeowner.  The gunshot victim Zachary Morrison a 30-year-old white male the son of the homeowner.

The gunshot victim was air lifted to UAB hospital for his injuries and the homeowner Morris Morrison was transported to RMC by ambulance for injuries to his hip.

The investigation’s preliminary information through witnesses and video evidence of a disturbance where Zachary Morrison the son was attacking his elderly father.  During the attack, the father discharged a firearm striking his son.  The investigation will continue to determine all the facts of this incident.

No charges have been filed at this time.  Both subjects are still currently receiving treatment at respective hospitals.
