Gadsden, AL – Dr. Kathy Murphy, president of Gadsden State Community College, has announced that she will be stepping down to accept a new role as president of Wallace Community College in Dothan, Alabama. She will officially begin her new position on June 1.
“It has been my honor to serve as president at Gadsden State since January 2021, and I will miss our wonderful college, our exceptional faculty and staff, and, of course, our amazing students,” said Dr. Murphy.
During her four-year tenure, Dr. Murphy led the college through a period of growth and innovation. Under her leadership, Gadsden State saw increases in student enrollment, scholarships, credit hour production, and retention. The college also expanded its workforce development efforts with additional apprenticeships and work-based learning opportunities, while prioritizing enhanced security measures.
Murphy also oversaw several major capital projects that transformed the college’s physical environment. Notable developments include the construction of the Advanced Manufacturing Center, new baseball and softball fields, and the renovation of Wallace Hall.
“Our college has invested significant resources in creating a better learning environment for students,” she said. “There is so much more to come, and I cannot wait to hear about Gadsden State’s progress and future successes.”
Gadsden State officials have announced that Vice President Alan Smith will serve as interim president to ensure a smooth leadership transition.
Dr. Murphy will bring her extensive experience and passion for student success to her new role at Wallace Dothan, where she is expected to continue her impactful leadership in higher education.
