November 7, 2021
Jim Evancho

On Sunday at approximately 5:25 in the morning the Jacksonville Fire Department received a call for a possible structure fire at 210 Greenleaf Street. When fire fighters arrived they located an apartment building in the Pheasant Run complex that was showing heavy smoke and flames. As Jacksonville began their attack against the fire, they requested assistance from surrounding fire departments and received support from Weaver, Alexandria, and Anniston fire departments. It took all four departments almost an hour to have the fire knocked down.

PIO Ben Nunnally released a statement via the City of Jacksonville Facebook page that the fire was almost completely out by 6:30 am. We spoke with Mr. Nunnally who advised at least two people were injured during their escape when they had to jump from the second floor window to avoid the flames. Both people were life flighted to UAB with serious injuries but did not appear to be life threatening. No other injuries were reported and all occupants of the building were able to evacuate.

The entire building appears to be a complete loss with 8 units being completely destroyed by the flames and smoke. The Red Cross is currently on scene and has offered assistance to anyone effected or displaced by the fire. To contact the Red Cross call 1-800-733-2767.

1st responders are still on scene to identify any “hot spots” so they request that everyone stay away from the area. No cause has been identified at this time but fire investigators are working the scene.
