Elderly Couple Killed in Jacksonville House Fire

Fire in Calhoun County

Jacksonville, AL – A devastating house fire in Jacksonville claimed the lives of an elderly couple early Sunday morning. The fire occurred in the 4000 block of Roy Webb Road and is currently under investigation by the state fire marshal.

According to Coroner Pat Brown, the victims have been identified as Edwin Allsup, 95, and Emma Allsup, 91. Calhoun County Coroner Pat Brown confirmed that the cause of death for both individuals was smoke inhalation and thermal burns.

Jacksonville Fire Chief Keith Kadle stated that his department was the first to arrive on the scene but noted that the location falls under the jurisdiction of the Knightens Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department. “We are always happy to assist any agency in the area,” Kadle said. “Any loss of life is a terrible thing.”

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire, and the state fire marshal’s office is leading the investigation. Further details will be released as they become available.
