Anniston, AL – Green thumbs and gardening enthusiasts are in for a treat as the Anniston Museum and Gardens presents a special event on Thursday, January 18th at 11:00 am. Join the Longleaf Botanical Gardens and Regional Extension Agent Chip East for an insightful session on pruning fruit trees at the Longleaf Event Center.

Attendees will have the opportunity to delve into the art of pruning small fruits, including blueberries, muscadines, and figs. Chip East, a seasoned expert with a background deeply rooted in agriculture and horticulture, will guide participants through the process. Learn valuable tips on giving fruit trees a more natural look in the landscape and discover techniques to enhance fruit production.

Chip East’s passion for agriculture and horticulture began on a cattle and hog farm in Clay County. With a rich background that includes working on a variety of farms and earning degrees in horticulture and education from Auburn University, Chip has been a vital part of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System since 1997. His extensive experience spans livestock, forages, wildlife, forestry, and 4-H. Currently focused on commercial horticulture, Chip works with producers involved in fruit, vegetable, nursery crops, athletic turf, and Christmas trees. His educational efforts extend to landscaping, landscape maintenance, pesticide education and safety, plant propagation, fruits, vegetables, pruning, and turf grass management.

The Third Thursday program is priced at $5 per person, and Anniston Museum and Gardens (AM&G) Members can enjoy complimentary admission. Participants are encouraged to bring their lunch, and water will be provided to keep everyone refreshed during the engaging session.
