Happening Now

April 13th brings the opening of the Jacksonville Farmers Market where people can shop for local produce and a collection of home made items. The Farmers Market is a great place to browse the wide variety of stands and talk to other local residents.

This year looks to be very promising due to the high level of rainfall during the off season many gardens will be producing higher than normal crops.

On this opening day you can expect to find hot and mild chow chow, vegetable soup, boiled corn, fruit butter, cornbread, various types of fresh bread, strawberries, turnip greens, fresh local eggs, and onions. We will also have fresh pies, cakes, jams and jellies, homemade canned goods, honey, candles, arts and crafts, and fresh vegetable plants. We will have plenty of hot coffee so stop by and enjoy a cup and good conversations.

This year for our opening day we will have a free concert for everyone that would like to attend. The spotlight group is “On the Fence” with lead singer Abby Parks. On the Fence is a Bluegrass/Old Time/Gospel/Country genre with strong vocals and excellent musical support from the group. The four person band is comprised of  Abby Parks–vocals, mandolin, banjo – Wayne Jackson-vocals, dobro, guitar – Larry Harvey-guitar – and Tommy Walker-upright bass.

On the Fence will be performing from 9:00 am until 11:00 am so come on down to enjoy some great music.

New Location

This year we will not be in the park located in the center of the square. Instead we will be located in “Pocket Park” which is located behind Roma’s Pizza across from the Jacksonville City Hall and Water Works building.
