Heflin, AL – The Farmland Raptor Project, in collaboration with local conservation groups, is hosting a Kestrel Nestbox Workshop and Build to support grassland raptors like kestrels, owls, and harriers. These birds play a crucial role in controlling pests but face challenges such as habitat loss and pesticide use.
The workshop will take place on February 7th at 5:30 p.m. at the Heflin Community Center, located at 1228 Coleman Street, Heflin, AL 36264. Participants will learn about raptor conservation and have the opportunity to build their own nestboxes for $15 each. Limited space and build kits are available, so early registration is encouraged.
Grassland raptors are vital for maintaining ecological balance, and landowners in the Southeast play a key role in their conservation by creating nesting and foraging habitats. The Farmland Raptor Project partners with landowners to protect these species and their habitats, aiming to reverse their decline.
The event is supported by the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, the Cleburne County Conservation District, the Choccolocco Creek Watershed, and the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).
To register or prepay, participants can use the QR code or Venmo @mtmenvironmental. Don’t miss this chance to support local wildlife conservation and learn how to make a difference.
