Fatal Crash Near Oxford

Cleburne, AL – A two-vehicle crash occurred on Friday, August 30, at approximately 1:15 p.m., claiming the life of a Wadley resident. Dillion C. Wheeles, 30, was fatally injured when the 2009 Chrysler Sebring he was driving collided head-on with a 2018 International Prostar tractor-trailer. The tractor-trailer was operated by Leslie C. Crowder, 74, of Valley.

The accident took place on U.S. 431 near the 219-mile marker, approximately six miles southeast of Oxford in Cleburne County. Wheeles was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division are currently investigating the incident, and no further details are available at this time.
