Final Defendant in East Alabama Drug Trafficking Conspiracy Sentenced to 10 Years in Federal Prison

Six people receive prison time in East Alabama drug trafficking conspiracy

Anniston, AL – The final defendant involved in a large-scale methamphetamine trafficking operation in East Alabama has been sentenced, marking the conclusion of a multi-agency investigation that spanned nearly a year.

Demarcus Sharon Brown, 39, of Anniston, received a 10-year federal prison sentence from a district court judge after pleading guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and distribution of methamphetamine. Brown’s sentencing brings to a close a case that involved six defendants operating across the region from fall 2022 through summer 2023.

According to court documents, Brown and five other individuals conspired to distribute more than 1,000 grams of methamphetamine throughout East Alabama. Law enforcement agencies seized substantial quantities of narcotics during the investigation, which culminated in a series of arrests and prosecutions.

The other members of the conspiracy have already been sentenced:

  • Jamar Dariunte Clay, 36, of Anniston – 152 months

  • Jonathan Tyree McRath, 39, of Anniston – 81 months

  • Donarius Quinez Kincaid, 38, of Anniston – 120 months

  • Brandon Jamal Jernigan, 30, of Anniston – 58 months

  • Michael Gardner Boone, 33, of Montgomery – 121 months

The investigation was spearheaded by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), with key support from the Anniston Police Department, Oxford Police Department, 7th Judicial Major Crimes Unit, and the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force.

Officials noted that the successful prosecution of this case highlights the impact of coordinated law enforcement efforts in combating large-scale drug trafficking operations that affect communities across the state.
