Oxford, Al – The Oxford Fire Department was dispatched to the Logan’s Roadhouse located at 40 Ali Way, at approximately 10:33 am to investigate a possible fire in the kitchen. Upon arrival, firefighters located the source of the fire in the kitchen and began their attack. Chief Gary Sparks stated, “The fire started when the kitchen was preparing food. A grease fire started and went up into the hood vent system and continued due to buildup of grease.”

Firefighters worked inside the kitchen as others utilized the ladder truck to get fire fighters the ability to attack the fire from above. The firefighters on the roof were able to deploy water down the vent system and the fire was quickly under control within 15 minutes of their arrival. Chief Sparks explained, “We were able to get the fire under control in about 15 minutes, and had the fire extinguished in about 30 minutes after we arrived.”

The building will remain closed due to extensive smoke damage inside, as well as heavy damage to the hood vent system. Inside the kitchen there was a lot of fire extinguisher powder from fighting the grease fire that will also need to be cleaned out. The hood vent system will also need to be completely inspected to identify any possible safety issues with the joints in the vents that may have been caused from the fire. Chief Sparks said, “There is a lot of damage from the smoke and fire that will need to repair and inspected before they are able to open back up.”

The building was safely evacuated when the fire was first noticed by employees and there were no injuries reported from the scene. Oxford fire department remained on scene after the fire was officially extinguished to make sure there were not “hot spots” that could cause the fire to start back up.
