Weaver, AL – At approximately 1:50 p.m. today, the Weaver Fire Department was dispatched to the area of Hillside Drive and Hillcrest Drive in response to a reported structure fire.
Due to the building’s location off the main road, emergency vehicles were unable to reach the site directly. Firefighters carried hose lines up a steep hill to access the blaze, where they discovered a freestanding garage/workshop fully engulfed in flames.
After confirming no one was inside, crews began their attack. The Alexandria Fire Department arrived on scene to provide mutual aid, positioning teams on exposed sides of the structure. Once Weaver Fire Chief Brian Bunn ordered water into the lines, both departments launched a coordinated two-sided attack.
Weaver firefighters first contained flames that had spread into the nearby wood line, preventing further threat to nearby homes, before focusing on the structure itself. With support from Alexandria, the fire was quickly brought under control. Crews remained on scene until approximately 5:00 p.m. to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.
Chief Bunn confirmed the building and its contents were a total loss, with the cause of the fire still under investigation.
“I’d like to thank the Alexandria Fire Department for assisting us today and Anniston EMS for standing by in case someone needed aid,” said Chief Bunn. “I’m also proud of the Weaver firefighters who worked hard to get this fire out.”
