Fraudulent crime post on social media

Anniston, AL – A recent post that was made on the social media platform, Facebook, has some residents concerned for their safety. In the group Anniston/Gadsden Buy, Sell, Trade, Clothes/Misc.etc a post stating the following was made on June 26, 2022:


“Warning

The public around Anniston is being warned to be alert and vigilant. These two men go around claiming to be homeless, seeking help, then they attack you. They are on the run and they are very dangerous. They attacked a 33 year old single mom with a knife 2 days ago leaving her struggling for her life. If you see them please report to the police and be careful. Warn others.”

Anniston Police Department Chief of Police, Nick Bowles, has stated this information is untrue. They are not currently working any cases that involve a 33-year-old female stabbing victim. Calhoun County Sheriff, Matthew Wade, also stated that they are not investigating any violent stabbing victim crimes that occurred recently.

The person that is making these types of post have done the same in other community pages causing people to be falsely alarmed for their safety. A brief search of the name of the original poster showed that he is a resident of Zimbabwe and not located in within the United States.
