ALEA Relocating Highway Patrol Post to City of Gadsden Airport Property

Gadsden, AL – In a move aimed at enhancing public safety measures, the Gadsden City Council has given the green light for Mayor Craig Ford to finalize a lease agreement with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA). The agreement will pave the way for the relocation of ALEA’s local Highway Patrol Post from Atalla to within the city limits of Gadsden. This decision marks the culmination of months of negotiations between the parties involved.

Mayor Ford expressed his elation at the successful conclusion of the deal, emphasizing the collaborative efforts that have been underway since the troopers first proposed the idea several months ago. He noted the strategic advantage of co-locating ALEA Troopers at the Fire Training and Prevention Center situated on the premises of Gadsden Airport. This move, according to Ford, not only consolidates various public safety entities but also underscores the city’s commitment to providing state-of-the-art facilities for law enforcement personnel.

The current Highway Patrol Post, situated on West Meighan Boulevard in Attalla, will be vacated as ALEA transitions its operations to the newly renovated facility in Gadsden. Renovations have been ongoing for several months to ensure a seamless transition for the troopers, with completion expected by early summer. Troopers have identified the proximity to major state highways and interstate access as key factors in selecting the new location. Moreover, the added security provided by the presence of the fire department and military facilities at the airport was deemed highly favorable by the agency.

ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor echoed Mayor Ford’s sentiments, emphasizing the shared commitment to promoting safety, security, and community well-being. He expressed gratitude to Mayor Ford and the City of Gadsden for their unwavering support and collaborative approach throughout the relocation process. Taylor underscored ALEA’s overarching mission to safeguard the lives of citizens and visitors alike, highlighting the significance of partnerships and initiatives such as this in achieving that goal.

The relocation of the Highway Patrol Post signifies a significant milestone in bolstering law enforcement capabilities and improving public safety measures within the region. With the support of local authorities and community stakeholders, ALEA looks forward to continuing its mission of protecting and serving the people of Alabama.
