Etowah County, AL — The Gadsden State Cardinal Foundation has announced the creation of a newly endowed scholarship designed to support students enrolled in the Radiography Program at Gadsden State Community College.

The Image Matters Endowed Scholarship was established through a gift from community leader Esta Spector. The scholarship will provide long-term financial assistance to radiography students through an endowment model in which the original gift remains invested while annual earnings are awarded to eligible students.

“This scholarship represents more than financial assistance — it represents opportunity,” said Hillary Folsom, director of advancement and alumni relations for the Gadsden State Cardinal Foundation. “For many of our students, especially first-generation college students and returning adult learners, a scholarship can be the deciding factor between putting their education on hold and stepping confidently into their future.”

Students enrolled in the radiography program at Gadsden State train for careers in medical imaging and often go on to serve hospitals, clinics and health care facilities across the region. Many students balance academic coursework and clinical requirements while also maintaining jobs and family responsibilities.

First-generation college students frequently pursue higher education without the benefit of prior family experience navigating college systems or financial resources. Scholarship programs can help reduce financial pressures while encouraging students to continue pursuing their academic and career goals.

Returning adult learners also benefit from scholarship support. Many individuals return to school to change careers, develop new skills or improve employment opportunities while supporting families and managing other obligations.

“Investing in students is one of the most meaningful ways we can strengthen our community,” Spector said. “I am honored to support radiography students who will go on to serve others in health care settings. I hope this endowment helps remove barriers and open doors.”

Endowed scholarships are designed to provide lasting support because the initial donation remains invested and generates scholarship funds annually. This approach allows future students to benefit from the scholarship for years to come.

The Gadsden State Cardinal Foundation supports the mission of Gadsden State Community College by securing private funding for scholarships, academic initiatives and capital projects. Through donor contributions, the foundation works to expand access to education and workforce training opportunities throughout the region.
