Gadsden, AL – Gadsden State Community College has entered into a new partnership with Samford University, signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) aimed at creating seamless transfer pathways for Gadsden State graduates into select Samford programs. This agreement simplifies the transition process for students and opens up scholarship opportunities, enhancing their educational journeys.

“This partnership allows our students to pursue their educational goals with confidence,” said Gadsden State President Dr. Kathy Murphy. “It reflects our commitment to providing accessible, high-quality education that supports their aspirations.”

The MOU establishes clear pathways for students who complete designated courses at Gadsden State to easily transition into Samford’s Organizational Leadership, Liberal Studies, Human Development and Family Science, and Public Health programs. Graduates with associate degrees will meet all general education requirements for these programs. Additionally, students without an associate degree can still apply and receive credit for their completed courses.

In recognition of this partnership, Samford University will offer a $2,000 transfer scholarship to Gadsden State graduates who complete 24 credits over three semesters. Students who are members of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges, will be eligible for an additional $2,500 scholarship. Moreover, those pursuing degrees in STEM fields can apply for the STEM Scholar’s Award, which averages $10,000 annually for eligible Pell Grant recipients.

“Supporting students through the transfer process is a priority,” emphasized Murphy. “Our academic advisors and faculty are dedicated to helping students navigate applications and ensure their credits transfer smoothly. We are grateful to Samford University for its commitment to our students.”

Gadsden State Community College has established several articulation agreements with universities and colleges throughout Alabama, providing students with a variety of pathways to complete their degrees and achieve their career goals.

Gadsden State is a public, open-door, comprehensive community college consisting of five campuses or educational centers across Calhoun, Cherokee, and Etowah counties. With a rich history in the communities it serves, the college focuses on preparing students for direct entry into the workforce or transfer to a four-year university. Gadsden State is one of 24 colleges within the Alabama Community College System.
