Gadsden State to host homecoming

Gadsden, AL – Gadsden State Community College is preparing for an exciting Homecoming celebration on Feb. 13, welcoming students, alumni, and the community to participate in a variety of events. The highlight of the festivities will be a doubleheader basketball game against Calhoun Community College, with the women’s game tipping off at 5:30 p.m. and the men’s game following in Beck Gymnasium.

This year’s Homecoming theme, “Let’s Glow Cardinals!” promises a vibrant and spirited atmosphere.

“Homecoming this year promises plenty of fun, flair, and school spirit,” said Lynn Patterson, director of Student Activities. “We’re excited to see everyone’s Cardinal spirit as we ‘glow’ into Homecoming.”

Homecoming Week will feature themed Dress-up Days for students and employees:

  • Feb. 10 – Beach Day
  • Feb. 11 – Western Day
  • Feb. 12 – Decade Day
  • Feb. 13 – GSCC Spirit Day

Costume Parades will take place at noon each day in the Cardinal Café on the Wallace Drive Campus.

“This gives students and employees the chance to show off their creative side,” Patterson said. “We always have a lot of fun during Dress-up Days.”

The Homecoming celebrations will also include a tailgate party open to the public from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Beck Conference Center, featuring food and games at no cost. At 5:30 p.m., the Gadsden State Alumni Association will host an alumni reception in the Beck Conference Center.

“This is a special gathering for alumni to take a few minutes to connect before the basketball games,” said Hillary Folsom, director of Advancement and Alumni Relations.

Adding to the excitement, the Gadsden State Show Band will perform from 4:45 p.m. until tip-off in the Beck Gymnasium. During halftime of the women’s game, Homecoming royalty will be crowned, with students voting for Homecoming King and Queen beginning Feb. 3 through their student accounts.

Following the women’s game, the Gadsden State Alumni Association will present three awards:

  • Distinguished Alumni of the Year
  • Emerging Alumni of the Year
  • Outstanding Faculty/Staff Alumni of the Year

“We are so excited to welcome back alumni for an evening of networking and reminiscing while honoring the outstanding contributions of our alumni,” Folsom said. “Homecoming is a perfect way to bring the Gadsden State family together.”

The celebration will conclude with a Glow Party and Dance during halftime of the men’s game. Hosted by Student Activities, the event is open to everyone and will take place on the gym floor, with glow-in-the-dark items distributed to participants.

With a packed schedule of activities and spirited traditions, Gadsden State’s Homecoming 2025 promises to be a glowing success for students, alumni, and the entire community.
