Gadsden State Community College Offers Over $75,000 in Scholarships to Female Students in Career Technical Programs

Scholarships available for female students enrolled in select programs

Gadsden, AL – Gadsden State Community College is paving the way for female students pursuing careers in technical fields with the announcement of over $75,000 in scholarships. These scholarships are specifically designated for female students enrolled in select career technical programs, aiming to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion within Gadsden State’s educational landscape.

The qualified programs encompass a wide range of technical disciplines, including Auto Collision Repair, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Automotive Service Technology, Diesel Technology, Construction Technology, Civil Engineering, Electronic Engineering Technology, Electrical Technology, Industrial Automation Technology, Mechanical Design Technology, and Welding Technology.

Alan Smith, the dean of Workforce Development at Gadsden State, emphasized the significance of promoting gender diversity in traditionally male-dominated industries. “According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, women make up about 47 percent of the country’s workforce but only 30 percent in manufacturing,” Smith stated. “Only 14 percent of the construction industry’s workforce are women. This scholarship program is an initiative to get more women into manufacturing, construction, and transportation careers in order to help develop the workforce in our area.”

The scholarships, which may cover expenses for the summer and fall semesters, are open to both new and current female students at Gadsden State. Current students interested in applying for the scholarships are advised to inform their instructors of their enrollment in a qualified program and complete the Federal Vocational Applications.

Prospective new students must first apply to Gadsden State and await acceptance before reaching out to Gina Martin in the Workforce Development Division at 256.549.8600 to inquire about the scholarship application process. The deadline for scholarship applications is May 29th, providing aspiring female professionals with an opportunity to pursue their educational and career goals with financial support.
