Honors Days Acknowledge Academic Excellence
Gadsden State’s Honors Committee and Academics Division is hosting the annual Honors Days in Anniston and Gadsden. The purpose of the events is to recognize outstanding academic achievement of our students. Scholarships to four-year universities are also awarded.
The event for students who primarily attend classes on the Ayers Campus will be at 2 p.m. April 16 in the Learning Resource Center. The Honors Day for students attending Gadsden campuses or Gadsden State Cherokee will be at 2 p.m. April 17 in Wallace Hall Fine Arts Center.
Food Drive for Cherokee County Children’s Advocacy Center
Gadsden State Cherokee is leading a food drive to support the Cherokee County Children’s Advocacy Center, offering aid to children who have suffered from abuse or neglect. Until April 30th, donations of individually packaged snacks, drinks, and $5 fast food cards are being accepted at the academic building, aiming to provide comfort and assistance to vulnerable children in the community.
Celebrating Poetry Month with Cardinal Arts Journal
In honor of National Poetry Month, Gadsden State’s Cardinal Arts Journal is hosting a series of events open to the public. On April 12th, “Plants and Poetry with Hooten Holler” invites participants to the Windy Van Hooten Teaching Garden to explore poetry and plant identification. Additionally, the annual Cardinal Arts Journal Reading and Exhibit on April 24th showcases submissions from the CAJ, while “Women in Poetry” on April 29th explores the rich history of women and poetry.

Induction Ceremony for Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society
New members of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society will be welcomed during an induction ceremony on April 17th at the Wallace Hall Fine Arts Center. This prestigious society acknowledges the academic achievements of community college students and provides opportunities for further growth and leadership.
Empowering Women with Self-Defense Courses
The Gadsden State Police and Public Safety Department, along with local law enforcement agencies, are offering free women’s self-defense courses in Gadsden and Centre. These courses, covering situational awareness, legal insights, and hands-on self-defense training, aim to empower women with confidence and essential skills. The Gadsden course is scheduled for April 20th, while the Centre course will be held on April 22nd. Attendees are encouraged to RSVP for these valuable sessions.
