Gadsden State to Host First-Ever Mass Casualty Simulation May 2

GSCC Health Sciences Mass Casualty Simulation Announcement

GADSDEN, AL — Gadsden State Community College’s Health Sciences Division will host its first-ever mass casualty simulation on Friday, May 2, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Wallace Drive Campus. The large-scale training event will take place in the area surrounding Helderman Hall and Bevill Hall.

This pre-planned training exercise is being conducted in partnership with Gadsden State’s Public Safety Department and several local agencies. The event is a simulation only, with clear signage and communication in place to ensure that all participants are aware it is a safe, supervised training scenario.

Designed to provide a realistic, hands-on learning experience, the simulation will help students and trainees prepare for careers in healthcare, law enforcement, fire, and emergency management. It will replicate the intensity of a real-world emergency response situation, offering valuable exposure to working under pressure and coordinating with multiple agencies.

A map of the Wallace Drive Campus highlights the area where the simulation will occur. The Gadsden State Department of Police and Public Safety will secure the simulation zone and direct traffic to ensure safety and minimal disruption. A helicopter landing is also scheduled during the event, set to occur in the area marked with a red X on the campus map.

To protect the safety of participants and allow the exercise to run smoothly, the public is asked to avoid the area if possible. In the event of inclement weather, the simulation will be relocated to the Beck Conference Center.

This marks a significant milestone for Gadsden State’s Health Sciences Division, offering students an immersive training opportunity that bridges classroom learning with real-world emergency response practices.
