Gadsden, AL — Gadsden State Community College is preparing to shine a spotlight on student creativity during “An Evening of Fine Arts” on Wednesday, May 1. Hosted by the Division of Fine Arts, the free, family-friendly event will begin at 5:30 p.m. on the Wallace Drive Campus and will offer an exciting blend of visual arts, theatre, and musical performances for the community to enjoy.
The evening’s festivities will unfold across the Meadows Building, the newly renovated Black Box Theatre, and the campus Quad. The Annual Student Art Show and a performance by the Gadsden State Show Choir will open the event. Guests will have the opportunity to meet faculty members, explore student exhibits, and learn more about the college’s Fine Arts programs.
At 6:30 p.m., the spotlight turns to Gadsden State’s theatre students as they take the stage in the Black Box Theatre to perform a series of one-act plays. The intimate venue will provide an up-close look at the college’s growing Theatre Program, which welcomes prospective students interested in participating in future productions.
As the sun sets, the event wraps up with a live outdoor concert on the Quad at 7 p.m. featuring the Show Band, A Cappella Choir, and Singers. The performance will include a range of musical styles, from jazz and disco to rock and today’s chart-toppers. Food trucks will be on-site, and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for a comfortable evening under the stars.
Students interested in joining the Show Band, Choir, or Singers for the 2025–2026 academic year can schedule auditions now. Visit www.GadsdenState.edu/FineArts for details.
While Fine Arts take center stage on May 1, Gadsden State continues to support students and the community through additional programs and events this spring. The college is offering CPR Certification courses in May and a Critical Care Prep Course beginning in June through its Continuing Education Department. These non-credit courses provide valuable training for personal development and career advancement.
Gadsden State’s Spring Commencement Ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. on May 13 at the Richard Lindsey Arena on the Cherokee Campus, celebrating students who have completed their program requirements.
In addition, the college is offering paid summer employment opportunities to eligible students ages 16 to 24 through the Alabama Department of Human Resources-funded Summer Youth Work Program. The program includes positions in departments such as Payroll, Human Resources, and Precision Machining Technology, providing valuable work experience and professional development.
From showcasing artistic talent to expanding workforce training and offering summer jobs, Gadsden State Community College continues to deliver enriching opportunities for students and the surrounding community. But on May 1, the focus will be firmly on celebrating the arts — and everyone is invited.
