Gadsden, AL – Gadsden State Community College sophomore pitcher Charlie Jones has been named the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) Division I Player of the Week for his stellar performance on March 14. Jones played a key role in the Cardinals’ 4-0 victory over Northwest-Shoals Community College, delivering a dominant outing on the mound.
“Charlie’s nearly flawless outing helped us maintain control throughout the game, contributing to our decisive victory,” said Gadsden State head baseball coach Blake Lewis.
Jones showcased his pitching prowess by striking out three batters and allowing just one walk. He carried a no-hitter through 6 2/3 innings before surrendering his only hit with two outs in the seventh inning. His commanding performance proved crucial in securing the shutout win for the Cardinals.
On the season, Jones has recorded a 5.25 ERA with two wins and three losses. Over 36 innings pitched, he has struck out 13 batters and issued seven walks. His outstanding performance against Northwest-Shoals stands out as a highlight of what has been a promising campaign.
“His impressive outing against Northwest-Shoals marks a significant achievement in what has already been a promising season for him,” Lewis added.
Jones’ selection as ACCC Division I Player of the Week marks a milestone for Gadsden State baseball, making him the first player to earn this distinction since the program was reinstated in 2023 following a decade-long absence.
“Charlie has been a good leader for us and our pitching staff this season,” Lewis said. “He works extremely hard, and I am proud of how much he has grown as a player and a person during his time at Gadsden State. This recognition is a testament to his dedication and development.”
The Gadsden State Cardinals currently hold a 17-10 overall record and are 6-6 in ACCC play. They will return to action at noon on March 27, facing off against the Calhoun Community College Warhawks in Decatur.
