Gadsden, AL – Freshman shooting guard Giovanni Nannucci of the Gadsden State Cardinals men’s basketball team has been named the Division I Player of the Week by the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC). The honor follows his standout performance during the Cardinals’ 102-85 victory over Marion Military Institute on Nov. 2.
Nannucci, a Greensboro, N.C., native and Southeast Guilford High School graduate, delivered a stellar game, scoring 23 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, providing five assists, and registering one steal. He showcased exceptional efficiency, shooting 75% from the field and a flawless 100% from the free-throw line.
“Giovanni has been a huge asset to our team,” said Cardinals head coach Deddrick Tarver. “He’s a hard worker who has been putting in the effort both on and off the court, and it’s paying off. He’s not only a great scorer, but he does a lot of little things that help us win games, like grabbing a key rebound or getting his teammates pumped up and into the game. This recognition is well-deserved, and I know it’s just the beginning for him.”
Nannucci’s achievement comes as the Cardinals remain undefeated this season, with wins against South Georgia Technical College, Gordon State College, East Georgia State College, Snead State Community College, and Wallace Community College-Selma, the latter being a narrow 76-74 victory at home on Nov. 11. The team’s next game is scheduled for Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. at Snead State.
This accolade marks the second Player of the Week honor for Gadsden State Athletics this season. On Sept. 3, Allie Bryant of the women’s volleyball team was named Defensive Player of the Week by the ACCC.
