Montgomery, AL – In an effort to provide financial relief to Alabama taxpayers, Governor Kay Ivey revealed on Wednesday that one-time tax rebates, as outlined in her 2023 budget, are now on their way to 1.9 million tax filers in the state. Since the authorized start date of December 1, officials have been diligently working to process and distribute these rebates, with more than 500,000 rebate checks and over 850,000 direct deposits already processed.
Governor Ivey, emphasizing the importance of timely financial assistance during challenging times, expressed her satisfaction with the progress in on-their-way distribution of the rebates. She stated, “As the country continues to face tough times, Alabama taxpayers are working harder to stretch their paychecks to cover expenses, and for some, this little bit goes a long way. Most of the rebate funds should arrive by mid-December. In fact, I am already hearing from many who have received their rebates.”
To be eligible for the rebates, taxpayers must have filed a 2021 Individual Income Tax return, and the Alabama Department of Revenue must have received it on or before October 17, 2022. Certain groups, such as non-residents, estates or trusts, and individuals claimed as dependents during the 2021 tax year, do not qualify for the rebate.
The amount of each rebate is determined by the taxpayer’s filing status:
– $150 for single, head of family, and married filing separately
– $300 for married filing jointly
Governor Ivey encourages eligible individuals who have not received their rebate by December 15 to contact the Alabama Department of Revenue at 334-242-1170, selecting option 1 for further assistance. This initiative aims to provide timely financial relief to Alabama residents as they navigate economic challenges, demonstrating the state’s commitment to supporting its taxpayers during these trying times.
