Governor Ivey Announces Two $5000 Rewards for Information Related to Birmingham Firefighters Case

Montgomery, AL – Governor Kay Ivey announced yesterday two $5,000 rewards for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for shooting two Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel at Fire Station 9 in the Norwood Community on July 12, 2023, which resulted in the death of Firefighter Jordan Melton and the severe injury of Firefighter Jamal Jones.

Governor Ivey also offered the following comment: “We mourn the loss of Birmingham Firefighter Jordan Melton, who, along with fellow Firefighter Jamal Jones, was deliberately shot while on duty at the Norwood Community fire station on the morning of July 12. Firefighter Melton passed away from his injuries last evening and Firefighter Jones continues to recover.  I join with all Alabamians in offering prayers for the family and colleagues of Firefighter Melton over their loss, and I pray for the full recovery of Firefighter Jones.  Furthermore, I am offering two $5,000 rewards for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for this heinous crime against two of Birmingham’s dedicated first responders.  We will not rest until justice is served.” – Governor Kay Ivey

Governor Ivey will issue a flag directive calling for all flags in the state to be lowered to half-staff in honor of fallen Birmingham Firefighter Jordan Melton once his arrangements have been announced.
