Montgomery, AL – Governor Kay Ivey, flanked by enthusiastic students and spirited mascots representing all 14 of Alabama’s public colleges and universities, gathered at the state capital on August 24th for a unique occasion. Their purpose? To present a formal proclamation to the Higher Education Partnership.

Within the historic confines of the old house chamber, Governor Ivey officially designated September 1, 2023, as “College Colors Day” across the state. In a heartfelt address, she urged all Alabamians to unite in sporting the hues of their beloved collegiate teams on this date, a day specially designated to honor the state’s public universities.

Governor Ivey also expressed her deep gratitude towards the Higher Education Partnership, commending their unwavering commitment to the betterment of students. She stated, “I’m truly thankful for all that this organization does for our students.”

Gordon Stone, the Executive Director of the Higher Education Partnership, reciprocated this gratitude, acknowledging Governor Ivey’s steadfast support. He emphasized that the governor consistently places the welfare of colleges and universities at the forefront of her priorities.

Both Governor Ivey and Mr. Stone underscored the vital role of higher education in enhancing students’ lives and their potential for lifelong earnings. According to data provided by the partnership, individuals holding a bachelor’s degree stand to earn over $1 million more throughout their lifetimes compared to those with lower educational qualifications.

Governor Ivey remarked, “Strong students lead to a strong Alabama,” emphasizing that her involvement in the Student Government Association during her time at Auburn University had prepared her for her current role in serving the state.

Concluding the event, Mr. Stone expressed his gratitude to Governor Ivey for hosting the gathering and emphasized the profound economic impact of investing in public education across all levels, from Pre-K to PhD, on Alabama’s overall prosperity.
