Montgomery, AL – On Friday, Alabama Governor Kay Ivey announced the deployment of an additional 125 Alabama National Guard soldiers to the Southern Border. The move is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to support border security operations amid what the Governor describes as ongoing challenges at the border.
“Over the last four years, securing the Southern Border has not been a priority for the Biden-Harris Administration, creating devastating consequences for every state. Let me assure you Alabama will continue doing all we can to support the mission of securing our Border,” Governor Ivey said. “These 125 Alabama soldiers will support Customs and Border Protection operations, and I thank them, as well as their families, for their tremendous service to our country.”
The newly deployed soldiers are from the 152nd Military Police Company, based in Hartselle, Alabama. Their mission is set to last approximately 400 days. This deployment will add to the current Alabama contingent at the Southern Border, which includes 269 soldiers from the 226th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, headquartered in Mobile, and the 158th Surface Maintenance Company, based in Tallassee. These two units are scheduled to return in phases in the coming months.
Governor Ivey has emphasized her commitment to supporting border security efforts throughout her administration. Under her leadership, Alabama has deployed more than 500 National Guard soldiers, along with specialized equipment, to assist with Customs and Border Protection operations.
The decision to send additional troops reflects the state’s ongoing role in national border security, a priority that Governor Ivey has reiterated for both Alabama and the nation.
