Governor Ivey Encourages College Students to Apply for Governor’s Office Internship Program

Montgomery, AL – Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has opened the application period for the Governor’s Office summer internship sessions, encouraging undergraduate students to apply for a unique opportunity to gain insight into the executive branch of state government. The program is designed to provide college students with a realistic overview of routine activities within a government office, fostering a deeper understanding of the inner workings of the state government.

As an advocate for education and a former teacher, Governor Ivey emphasized the value of hands-on experience in the governmental sector, urging all students interested in public service to consider applying for the internship program. Governor Ivey stated, “Today’s college students are tomorrow’s leaders, and there’s no better way to prepare for public service than by immersing yourself in the inner workings of state government.”

The summer internship sessions are divided into two six-week periods. The first session will take place from May 13 to June 21, 2024, and the second session from June 24 to August 2, 2024. Interns are expected to work from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, gaining valuable hands-on experience alongside dedicated professionals in the executive branch.

Governor Ivey highlighted the crucial role that interns play in shaping the future of the state, engaging in activities ranging from policy analysis to constituent services. The application deadline for both summer sessions is March 22, 2024, by the close of business. Interested students can find the application and additional information on the Governor’s Office website.

Governor Ivey encourages all eligible students to seize this opportunity, stating, “An internship here at the State Capitol offers a unique opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience, working side by side with dedicated professionals in the executive branch. I encourage all interested students to seize this opportunity to learn, grow, and make a difference in the lives of Alabamians.”

Details about other internship opportunities for 2024, including application deadlines and session dates, will be released in the coming months. The Governor’s Office aims to provide a comprehensive and unbiased opportunity for college students to engage with and learn from the state government during the summer internship sessions.
