Governor Kay Ivey Proclaims August 30 as College Colors Day in Alabama

Montgomery, AL — On Wednesday, Governor Kay Ivey, flanked by college students and mascots from Alabama’s 14 public universities and institutions, officially proclaimed Friday, August 30, as College Colors Day in Alabama. The proclamation was made during a ceremony held on the front steps of the Alabama Capitol, with Governor Ivey delivering remarks about the significance of the day.

Among the mascots present was Cocky, proudly representing Jacksonville State University (JSU), who joined others in celebrating the role of higher education in the state. College Colors Day is an annual event aimed at promoting the importance of Alabama’s public universities and the opportunities they provide in educating, serving, and improving the lives of the state’s citizens.

During her remarks, Governor Ivey emphasized the critical role these institutions play in shaping the future of Alabama. “Our public universities are pillars of strength and growth in Alabama. They educate our youth, foster innovation, and serve our communities. College Colors Day is a time to show our pride and support for these institutions that contribute so much to our state.”

Faculty, staff, students, alumni, and fans across Alabama are encouraged to wear apparel representing their favorite university on August 30, showing their pride and support for higher education in the state. The event, held annually, unites Alabamians in a display of school spirit and recognizes the achievements and contributions of the state’s public universities.

The ceremony, which began at 11:00 a.m. CDT, was a lively affair, with the mascots adding a festive touch to the proceedings. Cocky, along with other mascots, energized the crowd and brought a sense of camaraderie among the diverse group of students and representatives from each university.
