On Wednesday April 24th Jacksonville emergency services were dispatched to the Housing Authority area near 19 Marbut Dr SW. The original information given to the first responders was a possible hit and run between a motor vehicle and a pedestrian.
Jacksonville Police Department arrived in the area and located a female that had sustained serious injuries, including a severe head wound, from the impact. Jacksonville Fire Department then arrived on scene and began preparing the victim for transport to the hospital. During their assessment of the injuries the Fire Department determine that the victim needed to be airlifted to a trauma hospital.
Jacksonville Police initiated an investigation and after interviewing multiple witnesses determine that the incident was an intentional act. Police were able to identify a suspect by the name of Anissa L. Burns of Anniston. The 25 year old suspect had intentionally struck the victim and immediately left the scene. Jacksonville police were able to coordinate multiple agencies to assist them in locating the suspect and taking her into custody.
Burns is currently incarcerated in the Calhoun County Jail for charges of 1st degree Assault with a bond of $15, 000.
