HOBSON CITY, AL — In a historic milestone for Alabama’s first incorporated all-Black town, Hobson City proudly unveiled its first official town flag. The flag, presented to the town by the Hobson City Enhancement Committee, symbolizes patriotism, unity, resilience, and hope for the community.
Mayor Alberta McCrory shared the significance of the moment during a recent interview, reflecting on what the flag represents for Hobson City. “We have grown to just love this flag and just the very idea of having a flag that symbolizes patriotism and unity in our community,” she said.
The flag features green, white, and black colors. Mayor McCrory explained that green was chosen to represent life, hope, and prosperity, while white and black emphasize unity and the rich history of the town. Prominently displayed on the flag are images of Hobson City’s founding mayor and five council members, a tribute to the town’s enduring leadership and legacy.
“This is a historical moment and a historical event for Hobson City,” McCrory emphasized. “We have never had a flag before, and now we do. It will fly for years to come.”
Founded in 1899, Hobson City has a proud and resilient history. Mayor McCrory noted that receiving the town’s first flag in 2025 is a testament to Hobson City’s enduring spirit. Quoting a famous line from The Color Purple, she added, “We are still here. We are still here, still thriving, and still working to make Hobson City a better place.”
The new flag is already drawing attention and excitement from residents. Community members are encouraged to visit, see the flag, and take photos with it to celebrate this important addition to Hobson City’s storied legacy.
