Homicide in Jacksonville – One Person in Custody

Justin Racca has been charged with manslaughter

Jacksonville, AL – On August 21, 2022, at approximately 10:30 pm, the Jacksonville Police Department was dispatched to 1500 Block of Rochester Road SE in regard to a Domestic Disturbance. Upon arrival officers spoke to other individuals inside the residence who stated that a male had been shot inside the residence. Police Officers provided first aid to the victim, Trenton Medders, 25, of Ohatchee, but he succumbed to his injuries.

During the investigation officers were able to identify a suspect, Justin Kyle Tyler Racca, 25, of Jacksonville. Racca and the victim had known each other for some time and were “not strangers to each other,” advised Chief Marcus Wood. Racca was still on scene when officers arrived and remained during their investigation. A firearm was located and Racca was taken into custody and transported to the Calhoun County Jail where he is charged with one count of Manslaughter and is waiting for a bond to be set by a judge.

In Alabama Manslaughter is a Class B Felony and is outlined as:

(a) A person commits the crime of manslaughter if:

(1) He recklessly causes the death of another person, or

(2) He causes the death of another person under circumstances that would constitute murder under Section 13A-6-2; except, that he causes the death due to a sudden heat of passion caused by provocation recognized by law, and before a reasonable time for the passion to cool and for reason to reassert itself.

(b) Manslaughter is a Class B felony.
