Hot Honaker lifts Indians

Monday baseball: Ohatchee senior collects four hits, including game-winner in 11th inning; White Plains, Oxford win big

OHATCHEE – Brent Honaker continued his hot start to his senior season, going 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and driving in the winning run in the bottom of the 11th to give Ohatchee a 6-5 victory over Munford 6-5 in its home opener Monday.

Devin Howell got the winning rally started with a one-out double, then Honaker singled through the middle for the game-winner. Honaker went 3-for-4 in the Indians’ win over Jacksonville Saturday.

Carson Tittle went 3-for-4, Justin Powell went 2-for-4 and both drove in a run for the Indians. Howell pitched the final two innings for the win.

WHITE PLAINS 18, SAKS 4: Ashton Wallace and Braxton Curles both went 3-for-3 with homers and combined for six RBIs to lead the Wildcats. Wallace hit a three-run homer in third inning and Curles hit a two-run shot in the fifth.

White Plains jumped out 6-0 in the first and then added five in each of the third and fourth. Miles Austin and Wade Thompson both added two RBIs to the attack.

OXFORD 12, SPRING GARDEN 1: Hayden Gallahar and R.J. Brooks held Spring Garden to two hits over five innings and Hudson Gilman and Chance Griner both drove in a pair of runs as the Yellow Jackets won their fourth in a row.

The Jackets, installed Sunday as the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Calhoun County Tournament, pulled away from a one-run game with a six-run third inning.

RANDOLPH COUNTY 9, WEAVER 1: Zack Caldwell set down the first nine batters he faced in order, gave up two hits over seven innings and struck out 14 for the Tigers.

The only two hits he allowed came in the fourth on Elijah Smith’s leadoff double and Dalton Homesley’s one-out RBI single, then he retired the last 11 in a row.

William Wilson (three RBIs), Bryson Laney, Jackson Pinkard and Noah Payne all had three hits for Randolph County.

GADSDEN CITY 13, ALEXANDRIA 0: Jordan Nowell threw five innings of two-hit shutout ball for the Titans. [*** read more]
