Cleburne County, AL – On June 22, 2025, the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of possible human remains discovered in a wooded area near the 194-mile marker off Interstate 20. Upon arrival, deputies confirmed the presence of remains and secured the area. A multi-agency response was initiated to process the scene and begin an investigation.
The Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by Jacksonville State University’s Center for Applied Forensics, the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, the Cleburne County Coroner’s Office, and other supporting personnel. Officials also acknowledged the attentiveness of the citizen who initially discovered the remains and promptly contacted law enforcement.
Authorities stated that, at this time, there is no indication of foul play. Investigators found evidence that may help in determining the identity of the deceased. The process of making a positive identification is ongoing and being handled with care and respect for the individual and their loved ones.
