Illegal Narcotics Uncovered in Piedmont Following Police Chase; Two Arrested

Piedmont, AL – Last week, the Piedmont Police Department successfully apprehended two individuals following a high-speed chase, leading to the discovery of illegal narcotics. The incident unfolded on Wednesday, December 6, when police responded to an altercation at a Family Dollar store on Highway 278.

The altercation at the Family Dollar store prompted officers to be on the lookout for a red Toyota Camry, identified as the suspect vehicle. Upon arrival at the scene, an officer observed a red Toyota Camry leaving the area and rolling through a stop sign. Attempting to conduct a routine traffic stop, the officer identified the driver as 38-year-old Shawn Donta Daniels and the passenger as 46-year-old Edward Marice Johnson.

Instead of complying with the officer’s instructions to exit the vehicle, both Daniels and Johnson reportedly sped off, initiating a high-speed chase onto Kines Road. The pursuit continued as the car drove through a yard on the road, ultimately leading to the suspects abandoning the vehicle and fleeing on foot into the nearby woods.

Upon securing the scene, officers towed the red Toyota Camry and discovered a significant amount of illegal narcotics. A total of 1.6 pounds of methamphetamine, 84 grams of cocaine, prescription narcotics, and drug equipment were seized from the vehicle.

Arrest warrants were issued for Daniels and Johnson, leading to the execution of a search warrant in the 1300 block of Kines Road. During the search, police uncovered additional contraband, including firearms, one pound of marijuana, and five grams of crack cocaine.

Shawn Donta Daniels was taken into custody at the location and faces charges of trafficking methamphetamine, trafficking cocaine, three counts of Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substances (UPOCS), felony attempting to elude, and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (UPODP). His bond has been set at $73,000.

Edward Marice Johnson voluntarily surrendered at the Piedmont Police Department and has been charged with trafficking methamphetamine, trafficking cocaine, UPODP, three counts of UPOCS, and misdemeanor attempting to elude. Johnson’s bond has been set at $61,000.

Both individuals are scheduled for court dates early next year, marking a significant development in the ongoing efforts to combat illegal drug activities in the Piedmont area. The Piedmont Police Department commended the successful collaboration of law enforcement in ensuring the apprehension of the suspects and the seizure of illicit substances.
