Introducing Willie the Wallaby: A New Furry Resident at RedBird Willow Farm in Anniston

Willy and Kevin

Anniston, AL – In the heart of Calhoun County, a charming addition has made its way to RedBird Willow Farm, captivating the community with its unique presence. Willie the Wallaby, just a few months old and boasting an albino coat, has journeyed all the way from Texas to join the ranks of this beloved farm.

Willie’s purpose at the farm is clear: to serve as a companion to Kevin, the resident red kangaroo. As the two marsupials hail from the same homeland of Australia, their introduction promises an exciting bond. Currently, they engage in supervised playdates each day to foster their growing friendship. Kevin, still in his infancy at just one year old, is on a trajectory of growth, while Willie, too, will soon develop into a robust adult, weighing in at an estimated 50-60lbs.

These adorable creatures, though not domesticated in the manner of cats or dogs, possess a natural charm and curiosity that endears them to all who visit the farm. Willie’s daily routine includes sleeping in a tote bag that simulates his mother’s pouch and wearing a special diaper when indoors. Additionally, he is nurtured through bottle-feeding, ensuring his health and vitality.

While Willie and Kevin steal the spotlight with their budding friendship, RedBird Willow Farm offers much more to its visitors. From llamas and alpacas to horses, cows, peacocks, emus, chickens, and beyond, the farm boasts a diverse array of animals to meet and greet. Each animal carries its own story, adding layers of meaning to the farm’s atmosphere.

Amidst the joy of encountering these delightful creatures lies a deeper mission embedded within RedBird Willow Farm. Founded with the intention of honoring the memories of loved ones lost, the farm serves as a sanctuary of remembrance and healing. Willow the llama, the first animal born on the farm, stands as a poignant symbol, representing the enduring spirit of the owner’s son, Justin, who tragically lost his life to suicide.

Christina, who began as a dedicated volunteer at the farm, shares a personal connection to the animals she cares for. Kevin, named in memory of her own son, embodies the resilience and love that continue to thrive within the farm’s community. Witnessing the outpouring of affection for Kevin during farm events fills Christina with a sense of warmth, knowing that her son’s memory lives on through this gentle so to be 6ft giant.
