MONTGOMERY, AL — Gov. Kay Ivey has proclaimed September 4, 2026, as College Colors Day in Alabama, recognizing the state’s 14 public colleges and universities and their contributions to education, economic development and communities across the state.
Ivey presented the proclamation Thursday, August 27, during an event on the front steps of the Alabama State Capitol in Montgomery. College students and mascots representing Alabama’s public universities and institutions joined the governor for the event.
College Colors Day is intended to promote higher education while celebrating the traditions and school spirit associated with Alabama’s public universities. Faculty, staff, students, alumni and fans are encouraged to wear apparel or colors representing their favorite university on September 4.
According to the proclamation, Alabama’s public universities have a history spanning more than 190 years and collectively contribute more than $27 billion to the state’s economy. The proclamation also highlights the educational opportunities and scholarships provided through academic and athletic programs, as well as universities’ contributions to research, economic opportunity and quality of life.
The proclamation states that College Colors Day seeks to increase public awareness of higher education and recognize the economic, cultural and social impact of universities throughout Alabama.
This year’s College Colors Day theme is “Universities Turn Dreams into Reality — Dream Boldly.”
Ivey encouraged supporters of Alabama’s 14 public colleges and universities to display their school colors on September 4 in recognition of the observance.
