HOBSON CITY, AL – The historic Pot of Manna Lodge #478 invites community members to attend the grand re-opening of J.R. Striplin Park with a free community cookout this weekend.
The celebration will take place on Saturday, May 17, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Hobson City Park. The event promises to bring together local residents for an afternoon of “food, fun and fellowship,” according to event organizers.
“We’re excited to welcome everyone to the newly renovated J.R. Striplin Park,” said a representative from Pot of Manna Lodge #478. “This park has long been a gathering place for our community, and we’re proud to celebrate its grand re-opening with our neighbors.”
Attendees can enjoy complimentary hot dogs, chips, and drinks throughout the event. The family-friendly celebration is open to everyone, with organizers emphasizing that “ALL ARE WELCOME!”
The J.R. Striplin Park renovation represents a significant investment in community recreational space for Hobson City residents. The park serves as an important community landmark in Hobson City, which holds the distinction of being Alabama’s first all-Black municipality, incorporated in 1899.
