JACKSONVILLE — The Jacksonville scoring machine lit up another scoreboard Friday.
Jim Ogle passed for 201 yards and two touchdowns, and the Golden Eagles downed Cleburne County 63-14 in Class 4A, Region 4 play.
Jacksonville improved to 6-1 overall, 3-1 and region play and clinched a playoff berth with three regular-season games to play. Cleburne County (3-3, 2-1) suffered its second consecutive loss.
The Golden Eagles have scored 43 points or more in six out of seven games this season, 51 or more in each of their past three games. Friday’s 63-point total marked a season high.
Ogle completed nine of 12 passes. His touchdown passes covered 11 yards to Ky’dric Fisher, 13 yards to Damonte Sinclair.
Zae English rushed for 101 yards and three touchdowns, covering 49, one and four yards.
Lewis Bitticks returned a fumble 35 yards for a touchdown, and Landon Wise caused the fumble. Darel Atkinson Jr. had six tackles … five for loss and a sack.
WELLBORN 56, CHILDERSBURG 28: The Panthers (4-2) scored their fourth consecutive win and improved to 3-0 in Class 3A, Region 4, clinching a playoff berth ahead of next week’s key region showdown at Randolph County.
Wellborn also scored its 98th win with Jeff Smith as its head coach, making him the winningest coach in his alma mater’s history. He’s 98-63, moving ahead of his high school coach, Mike Battles, who was 97-55-1 over three stints on Wellborn’s sideline.
In true Wellborn style, the Panthers got it done on the ground, rushing for 519 yards. Most of that came in the first half as they built a 56-12 lead at halftime. They scored 32 points in the first quarter.
Jabari Williams amassed 256 yards rushing and four touchdowns, including breakaways of 87 and 57 yards. C.J. Hubbard added 62 yards and a 20-yard score.
“We didn’t expect it to be like that,” Wellborn coach Jeff Smith said. “The plays we ran just hit.
“Jabari was unbelievable. The offensive line and the tight end blocked great tonight.”
WHITE PLAINS 43, TALLADEGA 29: Dylan Barksdale was named homecoming king ahead of White Plains’ game against Talladega on Friday, and he reigned over homecoming.
With White Plains starting freshman Crew Martin at quarterback, Dylan Barksdale rushed 12 times for 102 yards, caught four passes for 127 yards and mounted 105 yards in kickoff returns for 334 all-purpose yards.
He also intercepted two passes and forced a fumble.
He scored two rushing touchdowns and one each on a pass reception and kickoff returns.
“We started a freshman at quarterback to night, and it made us a lot better, doing that, because we were able to get Dylan the ball different ways,” first-year White Plains coach Blake Jennings said.
P.J. Holloway rushed for 128 yards and caught a touchdown passes, and Martin hit on eight of 13 passes for 171 yards and two touchdowns.
The Wildcats (1-5) dropped Talladega to 0-6, and Jennings notched his first win as a head coach.
“It felt great,” Jennings said. “It’s a lot of hard work that goes into it. Kids have been putting in a lot of work since we got there. It’s a great feeling, no doubt about it.”
HANDLEY 39, ANNISTON 6: Handley’s E.J. Goss rushed for 164 yards and scored two touchdowns, one on a 63-yard run and another on a 91-yard catch and run on a pass from Cannon Kyles.
The Tigers improved to 6-1 overall, 4-0 in 4A, Region4 while dropping Anniston to 4-3, 1-2).
Kyles rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns and connected on all six of his passes for 195 yards and two touchdowns.
Daquavian Slaughter caught a 65-yard touchdown pass.
Handley held Anniston to 132 total yards, 73 on the ground. Quarterback Gavin Doss led the Bulldogs with 44 yards rushing.
ST. CLAIR COUNTY 36, ALEXANDRIA 31: Landyn Smith’s fourth-quarter touchdown pass gave St. Clair County a 36-25 lead, and the Saints held off winless Alexandria.
Smith completed 14 of 23 passes for 344 yards and three touchdowns, and the Saints erupted for a 24-point second quarter.
Alexandria led 14-6 after the first quarter, thanks to Elijah Hunter touchdown runs of 31 and 20 yards. He added a 3-yard touchdown run to bring the Valley Cubs within 36-31 in the fourth quarter and finished with 114 yards on the night.
Alexandria’s Cole Wheeler passed for 133 yards, including a 4-yard touchdown pass to Cooper Bridges, and Cleat Forrest kicked a 38-yard field goal in the third quarter.
JAX CHRISTIAN 66, SUCCESS 28: The Thunder rolled to 7-0 in eight-man Christian school ball with several big performances.
Noah Lee completed six of seven passes for 116 yards and five touchdowns, two apiece to Travis Barnhill and Jesse Gannaway and one to Bryson Dowdey. Barnhill had 98 rushing yards and 55 receiving yards and accounted for three scores, and Gannaway had 43 receiving yards and intercepted two passes.
Caleb Stallings returned a kickoff 73 yards and a touchdown, and Jack Henry returned an interception for a score.
Moses Averette led the defense with seven tackles.
The Thunder will close out the regular season next week at home, against Cornerstone-Rainsville.
