Jacksonville Gamecocks Welcome Back Marching Southerners Alumni for Annual Reunion

Generations of Southerners to Perform Together

Jacksonville, AL – The anticipation is building as the Jacksonville State University campus prepares to welcome hundreds of Marching Southerners alumni for their much-awaited annual reunion. Set against the backdrop of the final home football game of the regular season, this weekend promises a nostalgic celebration of music, camaraderie, and shared memories.

Alumni from various graduating classes will converge on the field during halftime to showcase their enduring passion for music. The ensemble plans to delight the crowd with renditions of some of their greatest hits, including the beloved “Quilting Party.” For those curious about the lyrics that accompany the traditional tune, here’s a sneak peek:

In the sky the bright stars glittered
On the bank, the pale moon shone
And ’twas from Aunt Dinah’s quilting party
I was seeing Nellie home

I was seeing Nellie home
I was seeing Nellie home
And ’twas from Aunt Dinah’s quilting party
I was seeing Nellie home

After the halftime performance, the Southerners will treat the audience to the 2023 halftime show post-game. It’s a perfect opportunity for both alumni and current students to connect through their shared love of music and the vibrant spirit of the Southerners.

The Jacksonville Gamecocks community encourages everyone to come out and support the band, revel in the nostalgia, and cheer on the team. So mark your calendars, grab your JSU gear, and get ready to witness the Marching Southerners weave their musical magic on the field. Blow Southerners!
