Jacksonville Police Execute Search Warrant – Drugs and Cash Seized

Jacksonville Police display evidence seized at search warrant

Jacksonville, AL – On March 16, 2022, the Jacksonville Police Department, Calhoun/Cleburne Major Crimes Unit, and the Anniston Police Departments SRT executed a search warrant at a residence in the 700 block of Mountain Street, NW. When the Special Response Team gained entry into the residence investigators began their search. They located more than 30 pounds of marijuana, $65,000 in cash, two kilograms of Kratom, and a loaded firearm spread out throughout the residence. Kratom is a schedule 1 narcotic in Alabama and is considered a class D felony. According to the DEA Kratom can lead to psychotic symptoms, and psychological and physiological dependence.

Jacksonville Police Chief, Marcus Wood, said that the search warrant was a result of an investigation between Jacksonville Police and the Calhoun/Cleburne Major Crimes Unit. Chief Wood said, “A lot of people discount the enforcement of weed, but drug houses bring other types of crimes as well. Robberies, murders, and assaults are also common at these drug houses.”

Earlier this year a man from Enterprise, Alabama was found guilty of murder, and drug trafficking in a Federal Court. The Justice Department issued a press release advising that the murder was committed during a marijuana purchase.

Chief Wood also stated, “We don’t make the laws in this state, we just enforce them. Until the legislation changes any law, we are bound to enforce them.” He went on to say the Jacksonville Police Department is dedicated to protection the law-abiding citizens of this community and there is no place for this type of crime.

The Chief also thanked the Calhoun/Cleburne Major Crimes Unit, and the Anniston Police Departments SRT for all of their assistance in getting this case to where it is. The investigation is still ongoing.
