Jacksonville State University Announces 2024 Honors Scholarship Recipients

Jacksonville, AL – Jacksonville State University (Jax State) is proud to announce the recipients of the prestigious 2024 Honors Scholarships. This highly competitive scholarship is awarded annually to only eight outstanding high school seniors, recognizing their exceptional academic achievements, leadership, and community service.

To qualify for the Honors Scholarship, applicants must meet rigorous standards, including a minimum ACT score of 30, a 3.75 GPA, and a demonstrated history of leadership and service in their schools and communities. The scholarship provides full tuition, housing, a meal plan, and books for the recipients throughout their time at Jax State.

“We are excited to welcome our eight new Honors Scholars to the Honors Program at Jax State,” said Dr. Lori Owens, Dean of Honors and Special Programs. “These scholars are not only exceptionally bright and talented, but they also demonstrate remarkable leadership and a strong commitment to service. We eagerly anticipate the positive impact they will have in the classroom, on campus, and within the broader community over the next four years.”

2024 Honors Scholarship Recipients:

  • Nathan Adams: A graduate and salutatorian of Cleburne County High School, Nathan was active in Beta Club, FCA, and served as a school ambassador. An accomplished athlete in football, basketball, and baseball, he also served as a JSU Dual Enrollment Representative and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. His community service includes building a Gaga ball pit at the Heflin Art Center and volunteering with Samaritans’ Purse, Feeding Cleburne, and the Heflin Fire Department. Nathan plans to major in Exercise Science and Wellness.
  • Jace Boudreaux: A graduate of Huntsville High School, Jace was a member of Mu Alpha Theta, Latin Club, and played a significant role in his school’s music program. He served as Marching Band Percussion and Truck Crew Captain and performed at the London New Year’s Day Parade. His community contributions include volunteering at the Humane Society and offering free percussion instruction to beginners. Jace plans to major in Finance.
  • Jackson Clements: A graduate of Douglas High School, Jackson was involved in Mu Alpha Theta, the National Honors Society, and participated in tennis and cross-country. He served as the FFA chapter secretary, captain of the Math Team, and a Marshall County Scholar-Athlete. Jackson plans to major in Integrated Studies.
  • Kendall England: Valedictorian of Lincoln County High School in Fayetteville, TN, Kendall was active in SGA, Beta Club, and Magic Moments. She served as a Girls State Delegate, AP scholar with honors, and on the Lincoln Youth Advisory Board. Her community service includes tutoring and volunteering at the Hand of Mercy Outreach Center. Kendall plans to major in Biology.
  • Chloe Mittelstadt: A graduate of Thompson High School, Chloe was a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and the Spanish Honor Society. An awarded athlete, she received the Shelby County 2023 Player of the Year award and has committed to playing volleyball at Jax State. Chloe plans to major in Chemistry.
  • Kari Gardner: A graduate of George Walton Comprehensive High School in Marietta, GA, Kari was active in the marching band, drama club, and the International Spanish Academy. She was a member of several honor societies and contributed to her community by translating for Spanish-speaking families and assisting with paint recycling initiatives. Kari plans to major in Music Education.
  • Mohamad Hamdan: Salutatorian of Iqra Math and Science Academy, Mohamad was the captain of the Scholar Bowl Team and a member of the Journalism Club. He accumulated over 125 hours of community service, volunteering at the Salam Free Clinic Food Pantry and the Meals on Wheels Foundation. Mohamad plans to major in Biology.
  • Katie Williamson: Valedictorian of Southside High School, Katie was involved in FBLA, Key Club, and served as captain of the dance line. She was student council president and a member of the National Honor Society. Her community service includes visiting nursing homes and volunteering at an elementary school’s fall festival. Katie plans to major in Biology and Chemistry.

These eight exceptional students embody the values of academic excellence, leadership, and community service that Jax State strives to foster in its students. As they begin their journey at Jax State, the university community looks forward to the contributions they will make both on campus and beyond.
