Jacksonville State University Announces Dr. Andrea Porter as New Associate Vice Provost of Curriculum and Academic Partnerships

Jacksonville, AL – Jacksonville State University (Jax State) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Andrea Porter as the new Associate Vice Provost of Curriculum and Academic Partnerships. In this role, Dr. Porter will also serve as the Director of Dual Enrollment, bringing her extensive experience and leadership to further enhance the university’s academic offerings and partnerships.

Dr. Porter, who has been a valued member of the Jax State community since 2005, currently serves as an associate professor of English and the Head of the English Department. Her career at Jax State has been marked by thirteen years of administrative experience, including two years as Graduate Director and seven years as a graduate program coordinator. Her scholarly work and leadership in dual enrollment programs have earned her recognition, including the Best in Section Award from the College English Association for her paper on “Dual Enrollment and the Transformation of College English.”

Expressing her enthusiasm for the new position, Dr. Porter stated, “This role encompasses everything I have done in my professional and volunteer careers. I am eager to collaborate with my colleagues to advance and grow Jax State.”

Vice Provost of Academic Affairs Staci Stone highlighted the significance of Dr. Porter’s appointment, noting, “We are excited to see what Dr. Porter will achieve in this new role. Her experience will be invaluable as she works closely with the registrar on curriculum development and helps the dual enrollment team support students and expand our program, which currently enrolls over 1,100 students from about thirty high schools in the region.”

Dr. Porter holds a doctoral degree from The University of Alabama, a master’s degree from Mississippi State University, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Alabama. Her dedication to education and her contributions to Jax State have positioned her well to take on this new role, which she began on August 1, 2024.

Jax State looks forward to the continued growth and success of its academic programs under Dr. Porter’s leadership, as the university remains committed to providing high-quality education and fostering strong academic partnerships within the region.
