Jacksonville, AL – Jacksonville State University (Jax State) Director of Athletics, Greg Seitz, has announced the hiring of Bill “Bubba” Bussey as the new Assistant Athletic Director for Broadcasting. This appointment marks a significant step in enhancing the university’s athletic broadcasting division.
“We are excited to add someone with the experience and expertise that Bill has to lead our athletic broadcasting team,” Seitz said. “His background as an engineer, combined with his extensive on-air experience and his success in building and expanding a broadcasting network, will greatly benefit Jax State.”
Bussey joins Jax State following a distinguished 30-year career co-hosting “The Rick & Bubba Show,” a nationally syndicated radio program based in Birmingham. His partnership with Rick Burgess began in 1994 when Burgess, then a local radio host, invited Bussey, the station’s chief engineer, to co-host. Over the years, their show, featuring former Gamecock baseball player Calvin Wilburn and current Jax State Director of Tennis, Michael Helms, became a dominant force in radio broadcasting.
“I’m thrilled to return to Jacksonville State University as the Assistant Athletic Director overseeing Athletic Broadcasting,” Bussey said. “It’s fantastic to be given the opportunity to serve my hometown and my alma mater, where I have so many fond memories.”
In his new role, Bussey will oversee all broadcast operations for in-house productions, including coaches’ shows and other Jax State events. He will also work to expand the reach of Jax State’s athletic programs, aligning with the university’s mission to increase awareness and visibility.
“Let’s #staycocky!” Bussey added, reflecting his enthusiasm for contributing to the growth and success of Jax State’s athletic broadcasting efforts.
