Jacksonville State University Campus To be Closed for Power Work

Jacksonville, AL – Per the Director of Strategic Communications for JSU, Buffy Lockette, Jacksonville State University will be closed on Friday, July 21, so that Alabama Power may conduct scheduled maintenance on the substation that feeds campus.

There will be an all-day power outage for most buildings, including the College of Education and Professional Studies Complex located at the corner of Francis Street and Spring Avenue. Alternate childcare arrangements should be made for children enrolled in the JSU Child Development Center.

The following buildings fed directly by Alabama Power will not lose power, however, any related offices will remain closed: Meehan Hall, South Complex, Brookstone, ROC Annex, Colonial Arms Apartments, Penn House Apartments, Campus Inn Apartments, College Apartments, Mountain Street Homes, JSU McClellan and the University Development House.

The JSU Canyon Center and the RMC/JSU Health Center will remain open regular hours.

With the power outage affecting all campus dining facilities, Sodexo is providing a boxed lunch and dinner on July 21, available for pickup at Jack Hopper Dining Hall. Lunch, available for pickup 12-1 p.m., will included a deli meat or veggie sub, chips, a cookie and fruit. Dinner, which can be picked up 5-6 p.m., will include a Southwestern or veggie wrap, a pasta cup, pretzels and fruit. The price of the boxed meals is a meal swipe, to be deducted from dining accounts the week of July 24. Please pre-order online by Wednesday, July 19, at 4 p.m. Email [email protected] with any questions.

Since JSU’s phone system is powered through network lines, telephones will also be out on campus on July 21. Campus police, however, will still be on duty. Should you need assistance, officers may be reached on the department’s backup line at 256-689-2018.
