Jacksonville State University Celebrates Commissioning of Four ROTC Graduates

Jacksonville, AL – In a ceremony marked by pride and accomplishment, Jacksonville State University celebrated the commissioning of four distinguished graduates from its Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program. The Fall 2023 commissioning ceremony, held on December 14th at 2:00 pm at the Houston Cole Library, marked a significant milestone for the newly commissioned officers as they embark on their military careers.

Carlie Benefield, one of the commissionees, will be joining the active duty ranks in the branch of Quartermaster. The commissioning ceremony serves as a testament to Benefield’s dedication and commitment to service, as she takes on responsibilities in logistics and supply chain management within the military.

Carlos Cruz-Munoz, another graduate from the ROTC program, will be contributing to the Army National Guard. While the specific branch is pending, Cruz-Munoz’s commitment to serving in the National Guard reflects his dedication to supporting and protecting communities at the state and national levels.

Jeanesia Pierce, a third commissionee, is set to serve in the Army National Guard with a focus on the Chemical branch. Pierce’s expertise in chemical defense and response will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of military operations.

Serenna Smoot, the fourth and final commissionee, will also be contributing to the Army National Guard, specializing in the Signal branch. With a focus on communication and information systems, Smoot’s role will be vital in maintaining connectivity and coordination within military operations.

The commissioning ceremony not only symbolizes the graduates’ transition from cadets to officers but also marks the beginning of their service to the nation. Friends, family, faculty, and fellow students gathered to witness the proud moment, showing their support for the newly commissioned officers as they take on leadership roles in the military.
