Jacksonville, AL – Building on its remarkable trend of breaking enrollment records each fall for the past three years, Jacksonville State University (Jax State) is celebrating another milestone in the spring semester by achieving its highest enrollment since 2009.

This week, university officials released the finalized census numbers for Spring 2024, revealing a total enrollment of 8,887 students. This figure surpasses the previous record set in Spring 2009 by 134 students. Compared to Spring 2023, the university witnessed a notable increase of 220 students, marking a 2.54 percent growth this spring.

Jessica Wiggins, Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management, attributed the success to a collaborative effort aimed at not only increasing the enrollment of new students but also ensuring consistent enrollment among returning students. She emphasized, “As we continue to make strides in recruitment, it is our goal to maintain a superior student experience with ample support for students to complete their degree.”

In addition to the overall enrollment surge, Jax State students are actively engaging in academics, with credit hour production increasing by 3.48 percent compared to Spring 2023. This reflects a 3.23 percent increase among undergraduates and an impressive 6.17 percent increase among graduate students. Credit hour production measures the number of hours of course credit students are enrolled in.

Key milestones achieved in Spring 2024 enrollment include:

– The largest spring undergraduate enrollment since Spring 2012.
– The largest spring international student enrollment since Spring 2018.
– A remarkable 193.5 percent increase in first-time freshmen compared to Spring 2023.
– A 3.1 percent increase in graduate students compared to Spring 2023.
– A notable 7.7 percent increase in dual enrollment students compared to Spring 2023.
– A substantial 109.5 percent increase in international students compared to Spring 2023.

President Don C. Killingsworth, Jr. highlighted Jax State’s commitment to providing students access to a quality education and equipping them with the tools needed to succeed in college. He stated, “Over the next decade, the highest job demand in Alabama will be for employees with a bachelor’s degree or higher, so Jacksonville State is striving to do its part to provide the state an educated workforce ready to support our growing economy.”

Enrollment for the Summer 2024 semester is set to open on March 11, with classes scheduled to begin on May 9. Applications for admission are currently being accepted for both the summer and fall semesters.
