Jacksonville AL – Fort Payne High School received a prestigious visit during its senior scholarship awards program as Country Music Icon and Jacksonville State University (Jax State) Trustee Randy Owen ‘73 graced the event with his presence. On May 14th, Jax State honored 24 outstanding Fort Payne High School students who have chosen to further their education at the university.
Among the distinguished guests were Dr. Christie Shelton, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, Lauren Findley, Director of Admissions, Joseph Culver, Army ROTC Recruiting Operations Officer, and the special guest, Trustee Randy Owen, Jax State Alumnus ‘73, and Lead Singer of the renowned group Alabama. These students, recognized for their academic excellence and leadership qualities, collectively accepted Jax State scholarships amounting to over $767,000. Findley emphasized the university’s commitment to supporting students through various scholarship offerings, reflecting its dedication to nurturing diverse talents and interests. The Office of Admissions at Jax State continues to acknowledge and celebrate the accomplishments of high school students across the region, with plans to attend over 80 high school awards programs this spring.
