Jacksonville, AL — Pell City Native and Senior Communication Major Assumes Leadership Role

De’Onta Bush, a senior majoring in communication at Jacksonville State University, has been elected as the 76th President of the Student Government Association (SGA) for the academic year 2024-2025. Bush, hailing from Pell City, brings with him a wealth of leadership experience and a vision for a more inclusive and vibrant campus community.

Bush, currently serving as the vice president of student activities and as vice president of the NAACP, has demonstrated his commitment to service and student advocacy throughout his tenure at Jacksonville State University. His involvement in various organizations and initiatives reflects a dedication to fostering positive change within the university community.

A member of the Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity, Bush’s leadership journey within the university has been marked by diverse roles and responsibilities. He has served as an SGA Senator, Ambassador, Gamecock Guide, resident assistant, Freshman Forum mentor, and House Pro Temp of the Collegiate Legislature. Notably, Bush co-founded the Hopeful Hand Initiative, demonstrating his proactive approach towards addressing societal challenges and supporting his peers.

The election of De’Onta Bush as SGA President marks a significant milestone in his journey at Jacksonville State University. His track record of leadership, coupled with his commitment to student engagement and empowerment, positions him as a capable leader poised to advocate for the needs and aspirations of the student body.
