Jacksonville, AL — In November, Jacksonville State University (Jax State) biology students took a hands-on approach to learning as they visited Sustainable Alabama, a state-integrated medical cannabis license holder and industry leader. Led by Dr. Lori Hensley, Dr. Jenna Ridlen, and Dean Tim Lindblom, the site visit offered students a detailed look into the processes behind cannabis cultivation and extraction, blending biology with cutting-edge medical applications.

Hosted by Benjamin Bramlett, chief operations officer of Sustainable Alabama, the visit included a comprehensive tour of the facility and a catered lunch-and-learn session. Bramlett provided insights into the company’s innovative cultivation techniques and extraction processes while answering questions from the students, highlighting the dynamic opportunities within the growing field of medical cannabis.

The visit marked the culmination of BY420 Applied Medical Cannabis, one of Jax State’s pioneering cannabis science microcredential courses. This groundbreaking program introduces students to the science, industry practices, and applications of medical cannabis, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to excel in an evolving sector.
